Dover Heights
A Thoughtful Reconfiguration for Family Living
This Dover Heights renovation transformed the ground and first floors with a more practical layout and a fresh, welcoming interior. The brief was to upgrade the home while making better use of the space the family already had.

One of the most significant changes was replacing the spiral staircase that once occupied the kitchen. Relocating the stairs to the end of the hallway improved the flow of the ground floor and gave the kitchen more room to function as part of the living space. A new laundry was added downstairs, while the first floor gained an additional bathroom and an open study area at the top of the stairs. Large skylights bring light into this space and down towards the level below.

In the kitchen, custom white VJ joinery is paired with a pale blue splashback and warm Boston Oak timber is used through out the house to create warmth. Built-in banquette seating makes efficient use of the dining area, creating a comfortable place for everyday meals. The blue joinery in the upstairs study carries a playful touch of colour through the home.

The bathrooms take a softer approach, with warm neutral finishes in the warm brushed nickel tapware, beige-toned large format tiles and a built-in Corian bath. In the main bedroom, joinery doors discreetly conceal the ensuite.

Gardner Design completed the design and drafting, managed the CDC application and worked with the clients on the interior fixtures and finishes. The builder for this project was Gardner Construction who then brought the renovation to life, creating a home that feels more connected, functional and distinctly their own.
